The Ecological Land Cooperative is a community benefit society run by its members for the benefit of communities across England and Wales. We exist to create opportunities for land-based work and in particular we create small farms for those who wish to have a land based livelihood that also cares for the environment. Landworkers and ecological growers form the heart of the ELC and we greatly value steward membership applications from people managing large and small areas of land ecologically (membership is just a nominal £1).
The ELC is run by its members who make decisions about the direction of the organisation at the AGM each year and also elect the board of directors, a group of members who meet monthly to consider organisational strategy and have oversight of the running of the organisation. The day to day management of the organisation is carried out by the staff team working collectively.
You can read the ELC rules of Community Ownership to find out more about the key role our steward members play in the running of the organisation.
