During the present lockdown, Ecological Land Cooperative is very aware that our first duty is to protect health services and the vulnerable. We will also be staying in touch with our farmers, who are in some cases overwhelmed by demand for food deliveries and in other cases losing all their trade overnight. We will support them the best we can during this crisis and will consider all reasonable requests for help. Looking further ahead, we are - like all in the farming industry - focused on maintaining the regular planting and harvesting of crops to spread confidence in food supplies.
As a remote working organisation, the ELC is well placed to carry on during these difficult times of isolation at home. However, whilst we are all affected to some extent, those of us with young children now have them at home and are coping with a lack of childcare as well as a need to think about vulnerable people. Travelling to our sites is not advised. We will do less face to face work, not hold any team or community meetings and carry out much of our work remotely without meeting contractors. This will inevitably mean a reduced capacity temporarily and may mean that we are not always available immediately to answer your calls and questions.
This year we will hold our AGM online and we will be in contact with our members about this very soon.
We have been humbled by the support for our 2020 Share Offer, which started before the recent crisis had developed, and we still very much hope that we can attract new investor members to the ELC. There has never been a greater need for locally produced, healthy food and we want to help more new farmers onto the land, now and long into the future.
We hope that you stay safe and well during this crisis. If you do need to contact the ELC the best way to do this is by email to email@example.com.
Community Investment Guide: Using Industrial and Provident Society Legislation by Jim Brown
Community investment is about ordinary people investing their own money – sometimes small sums, sometimes larger amounts – to support the development of something they care about. This booklet gives a brief overview of some of the issues involved in raising investment from your community for business ventures serving a social or community purpose.
This website has useful Case Studies, Factsheets and Resources sections which include information on community finance, legal structures and information on existing schemes financed with community investment.
Ethex is a small not for profit organisation based in Oxford UK with the aim of creating a marketplace for positive investments. Organisations can use Ethex as an investment platform for community share offers to raise necessary finance.
